4 Hormones That Cause Belly Fat : How To Lose Abdominal Fat And Get Skinny

4 Hormones That Make Your Belly Fat : How To Lose Abdominal Fat And Get Skinny

We already discussed the 3 Hormones That Make You Skinny And How To Make Them Work For You. Now for the bad news. Here are the 4 Hormones that make you fat! They are Insulin, Estrogen, Leptin, and Cortisol.

Belly Fat Hormone #1. Insulin

Insulin spikes make you fat. If you are feeling starved that pretty much means your insulin has already spiked and the next thing you put into your mouth will now get stored as fat. Refined carbs and sugar are the worst offenders sending blood sugar sky-rocketing. These types of carbs raise endorphins in the brain like a drug, but the high is short-lived.

What to Do To Lose The Belly Fat:

  • Avoid simple or high glycemic carbohydrates. (Potatoes, pasta, bread, candy, soda, juice, refined anything ect.)
  • If you must have your “fix” try to make it around 150 calories and under 5 grams of sugar per serving so as not to spike your blood sugar.

Belly Fat Hormone #2. Estrogen

Too much estrogen causes weight gain, cellulite, cancer and makes you feel soft and spongy.

What to Do To Lose The Belly Fat:

  • Avoid Processed foods
  • Eat high fiber (25-30 grams per day)
  • Avoid too much caffeine
  • Avoid too much alcohol (Impedes livers ability to metabolize estrogen)
  • Stay away from plastics! (If you are using plastic make sure it is BPA FREE, otherwise get rid of it!)
  • Soy products increase estrogen so limit your consumption.
Belly Fat Hormone #3. Leptin
When you have adequate levels of Leptin in your body it tells your body to stop eating. When it is low it causes you to store fat.
What to Do To Lose The Belly Fat:
  • Avoid MSG
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Eat slowly
  • Eat Fish
  • Get more zinc (Poultry and seafood are high in zinc)
Belly Fat Hormone #4. Cortisol
Cortisol is the stress hormone and just as nasty as it sounds. As if you didn’t have enough problems, this lil’ guy will make you store fat around your middle like a spare tire.
What to Do To Lose The Belly Fat:
  • Cultivate a sense of humor
  • Practice yoga
  • Take long deep diaphragmatic breaths
  • Get more sleep
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Meditate
  • Remove yourself from upsetting  situations when possible until you calm down.
  • Maintain close bonds with family and  friends
  • Listening to soothing music
  • Limit your exposure to violent TV shows and movies
  • Eat white beans, citrus fruits, and black tea.
  • Take magnesium and Vitamin C

Is There Arsenic In Your Food?

arsenicYesterday while browsing the web I came upon a very disturbing piece of news that I felt I needed to share.

They have found Arsenic in our FDA approved protein powders, in fact they have found heavy metals (get this!) in every protein powder they tested!

Though many of you have probably already heard, this news came as a shock to me! I do not regularly use protein powders, but I have dabbled with them in the past, and this is downright scary!
We lived in a high-protein, low-carb-obsessed society at the moment, and although protein forms the building blocks for muscle, help proper function of our immune systems and much much more we are (generally speaking) consuming way too much of it!

Too much protein can lead to dehydration, digestive problems, increase your risk for osteoporosis, and put a huge amount of undue stress on our kidneys.

An investigation appearing in the July issue of Consumer Reports finds that some protein drinks could be toxic, if you take too much.

Says CR’s Urvashi Rangan, “We tested about 15 different types of protein drinks. … And we actually looked for four different heavy metals. We looked for arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead.”

Test results found heavy metals present in all 15 drinks — some more than others.

Consumer Reports says three products were of particular concern — because consuming three servings a day could result in exposure to arsenic, cadmium or lead that exceed proposed limits for contaminants:

Eas Myoplex (Arsenic, Cadmium)
Muscle Milk-Chocolate (Cadmium, Lead)
Muscle Milk-Vanilla Crème (Lead)

Urvashi Rangan, Consumer Reports, said, “What we’re concerned about here is the chronic low level exposure of a heavy metal. And what people should know, is that heavy metals, once they come into our bodies, once they’re metabolized, they tend to stay there for a long period of time.”

In closing, as always it is probably best to stay as close to mother nature as possible when it comes to something you are ingesting! If you can’t pronounce the ingredients steer clear yogis!

Fuel for Super-Yogis: 7 Foods for Optimum Health and Fitness

healthy foodEating healthy is a must to feel healthy!

Yes, some of us would like to just ‘do our yoga’ and be done with it, however, food is at least 80% responsible for how you feel and excercise is about 20%!

Isn’t it time to supercharge your amazing yogi body with the foods it needs to grow and thrive to the fullest?

Health expert David Zinczenko says

“Research shows that the vitamins, minerals, and active compounds specific to certain fruits, vegetables, and even chocolate and red wine have an immediate and lasting impact on your mood, your health, your fitness — even your sex life.”

Sounds good to me!

Here are 7 Foods he recommends for fueling your body…

1. 1 Cup of Low-Fat Yogurt or 2 Tbsp of Mixed Nuts

Scientists in Slovakia gave people 3 grams each of two amino acids — lysine and arginine — or a placebo and asked them to deliver a speech. Blood measurements of stress hormones revealed that the amino acid–fortified public speakers were half as anxious during and after the speech as those who took the placebo. Yogurt is one of the best food sources of lysine; nuts pack tons of arginine.

2. Green Tea

Catechins, the powerful antioxidants found in green tea, are known to stoke your metabolism, making it burn hotter and torch more calories. A study by Japanese researchers found that participants who consumed 690 milligrams of catechins from green tea daily had significantly lower body-mass indexes and smaller waist measurements than tea-totalers (i.e., they avoid the stuff).

3. A Handful of Trail Mix

Raisins provide potassium, which your body uses to convert sugar into energy. Nuts stock your body with magnesium, which boosts metabolism and improves nerve and muscle function. (When magnesium levels are low, your body produces more lactic acid — the same fatigue-byproduct that makes your muscles ache at the end of a workout.)

4. Blueberries

Antioxidants in blueberries help protect the brain from free-radical damage, which could decrease your risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and improve cognitive processing. Wild blueberries, if you can find them (or grow them!), have even more brain-boosting antioxidants than the cultivated variety.

5. Ginseng Tea, Hot or Iced

In a Canadian study, people who took 400 milligrams of ginseng a day had 25 percent fewer colds than people who popped a placebo. Ginseng helps kill invading viruses by increasing the body’s production of key immune cells.

6. Eggs and Whole-Wheat Toast

Eggs are a great source of protein, and having them for breakfast sets you up for a perfect day of eating. Saint Louis University researchers found that people who eat eggs for breakfast consume 264 fewer calories the rest of the day than those who eat bagels and cream cheese.

7. Dark Chocolate

The cocoa in chocolate contains stimulants that increase your body’s sensitivity. Chocolate also contains phenylethylamine, a chemical that can give you a slight natural high. And Italian researchers found that women who often eat chocolate have a higher sex drive than those who don’t. Make sure your chocolate has at least 60 percent cacao.

No Food, No Water,…Just Prana for this Guy!

This man has spent the last two weeks under 24 hour surveillance at the hospital and neurologists confirm that he did not eat, drink or use the restroom during that time. He was also monitored with video cameras.

An 83-year-old Indian holy man who says he has spent seven decades without
food or water has astounded a team of military doctors who studied him
during a two-week observation period.

Prahlad Jani spent a fortnight in a hospital in the western India state of
Gujarat under constant surveillance from a team of 30 medics equipped with
cameras and closed circuit television.

During the period, he neither ate nor drank and did not go to the toilet.

“We still do not know how he survives,” neurologist Sudhir Shah told
reporters after the end of the experiment. “It is still a mystery what kind
of phenomenon this is.”

Sugar and Cocaine : More in Common than You Might Think

coca cola, sugar consumption
What?

Refined Sugar is a drug?

I know you are shocked, but the truth is that sugar is the devil.

(As in evil guy, red tail, knobby horns, enjoys hurting people, yeah, that’s the guy)

It is highly addictive, robs your body of nutrients and leaves you in a weakened state craving your next ‘fix’.

Sure sounds like a drug to me.

Dr. David Reuben, author of Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Nutrition says,

“White refined sugar-is not a food. It is a pure chemical extracted from plant sources, purer in fact than cocaine, which it resembles in many ways. Its true name is sucrose and its chemical formula is C12H22O11.The chemical formula for cocaine is C17H21NO4. Sugar’s formula again is C12H22O11.For all practical purposes, the difference is that sugar is missing the “N”, or nitrogen atom.”

Blood sugar, in the form of glucose, is the basic fuel for all brain operation and physical activity. When we eat a lot of sugar it causes imbalances in our mental states. Our glands struggle to regulate the sugar levels in our bodies with the release of insulin.
The result?
A whole host of problems – especially high adrenaline, which makes you feel anxious and panicked. For some people this may lead to panic attacks and for others it leads to violence.

In his book, Diet, Crime and DelinquencyDr. Alexander G. Schauss, states

“Many mental ward and prison inmates are “sugarholics” and erratic emotional outbreaks often follow a sugar binge.”

Refined sugar resembles a drug in that during the refining process everything of food value is removed!!

Everything!

What remains is something so indigestible that your body has to rob itself of vital nutrients to assimilate this toxin!

White sugar has a drug like effect on the body and is especially dangerous in the quantities consumed by the average American.

Did you know the average American consumes thirty teaspoons of this deadly stuff a day? The scary thing is, the average healthy digestive system can only digest and eliminate from two to four teaspoons of sugar daily, without noticeable problems. (for a lot of people two to four teaspoons barely covers their morning coffee, let alone breakfast!)
And how about if you are not a coffee drinker and say enjoy a nice cold Cola to wake up?

One twelve ounce Cola has eleven teaspoons of sugar!

In fact, sugar is the leading additive to food in the U.S! No wonder we are a nation of obese sugar-addicted junkies! Sugar is just as habit-forming as any narcotic; and the way it is abused is a national disaster!

Sadly, almostall of the products we consume daily are loaded with sugar!

Sugar gives you a quick energy ‘high’ so to speak, due to the rise of your blood sugar level. When the body responds with a release of insulin however your energy and endurance suddenly drops. Making you crave your next ‘high’, and the vicious cycle continues!

So why is it in just about everything we eat?

Sugar manufacturers are aggressive in defending their product and have a strong political lobby which allows them to continue push a deadly food item that keeps the nation fat, tired, sick and obese. Much like the drug cartels they are motivated by money and will stop at nothing to convince the average consumer that what they are eating is ‘natural’ and ‘healthy’. Funny thing is 90% of what is ‘natural’ has been removed-what remains is a deadly toxin that will disrupt the functions of your body and leave you sick, tired, and wanting more.

And now the real test…

Try it for yourself!

Leave sugar out of your diet for a couple of weeks and see how you feel.
Please note however, if you don’t feel amazing in the beginning it only means you are probably having a withdrawal because of the drug addiction you have acquired.

Red Wine Fights Fat!

Yes, it is true!

Red wine suppresses estrogen production in fat cells, and increases the release of Leptin an appetite suppressing hormone.

Red wine also decreases cortisol, a hormone that increases appetite and is associated with stress.

Red wine prevents fat storage

And

(drum roll…)

promotes fat breakdown!

Fat cells are the most important site of estrogen production in postmenopausal women, and in men.

Red wine contains chemicals such as quercetin, myricetin, resveratrol, and procyanidins that interfere with estrogen production.

A Brazilian study showed that rats treated with red wine showed less weight gain than control animals, even though they were fed the same amount of food. Bon appetite!

Sugar: It May Be Cute but It’s Not Innocent

sweethearts cupcakes with sprinklesWords I repeat over and over in my head as I scurry quickly past the window full of beautiful, sweet and not so-innocent-looking cupcakes. Thank god for Manduka mats they make such excellent cupcake shields. Do you think they may want that for their next ad compaign?

” Yoga teacher and Manduka ambassador Angela Kukhahn pioneered the way to better health after dicovering that covering ones eyes with the Manduka Black Mat while in the prescence of sugary delights greatly reduced ones chances of  shoveling a cupcake into ones mouth while walking to yoga class.”

Manduka Mats also make great ‘sugar shields’, who knew?…simply, Brilliant!

Why sugar is bad (further evidence that Mrs Beasley and the devil may be in cahoots…as I always suspected…)

I gleaned some info from the author of this website macrobiotics.co.uk/sugar.htm

Of all the foods consumed today, refined sugar is considered to be one of the most harmful

Sugar contains no fiber, no minerals, no proteins, no fats, no enzymes,… only empty calories.

  • To digest sugar ‘borrows’ from your perfectly healthy cells since it is void of enzymes and nutrients leaving your body robbed of the building blocks of good health. (This is no Robin Hood think Cat Bugular…)
  • Likewise, the teeth are affected and they lose their components until decay occurs and hastens their loss.
  • Sugar is highly acidic creating a breeding ground for disease in the body
  • Sugar causes toxic waste to accumulate int the blood, the body and the brain speeding up cellular death.
  • Sugar makes the blood very thick and sticky, inhibiting much of the blood flow into the minute capillaries.
  • Sugar eventually causes Diabetes when the  pancreas can no longer produce adequate insulin. Diabetes is what happens when the poor ‘lil ‘ol pancreas throws in the towel. I can just see a my ‘lil pancreas marching in a stomping its angry ‘lil pancreas foot saying “I have had it with you and Yogurtland! One more episode and I’m outta here!” (Not that i like Yogurtland that much or anything, I mean I am just saying…)
  • Sugar leaves you with that “tired” feeling when the pancreas releases too much insulin. (Wow sounds fun…Good times!..not!)
  • Sugar causes and upset in the minerals in the body causing gallstones.
  • Sugar causes a variety of mental problems. Our brains are very sensitive and react to quick chemical changes within the body. It leads to a confused mental state and has also been linked with juvenile criminal behavior.
  • The Young Raw Coconut: Natures Very Own Sheriff (Call Me the Deputy/Damsel in Distress)

I would imagine that should a young raw coconut ever get cast in a movie it would get a starring role as the sheriff.

    Why the sheriff you ask?

(In fact you may even be wondering why a tropical fruit would get cast in an action movie at all)

    Allow me to explain…

It seems to me in old westerns that the sheriffs role involves showing up unexpectedly to ‘clean up’ a town that has been overrun with rouge outlaws. (gasp!) He then heroically drives out the ‘bad guys’, restores order and of course wins the young maidens heart.

I would say that is fairly consistent with what I know about coconuts. The young coconut came into my life unexpected, cleaned out the renegade bacteria in my digestive tract, restored balance in my body, and helped me lose a few extra pounds. Of course all of that chivalry led to us falling in love and living happily ever after!(The End.)

The only thing is,….. I am not sure how a coconut would look in chaps,… however that is just a minor detail…

Showing up unexpectedly: Coconuts are a natural sports drink without all the artificial colours and sugar (or even worse artificial sweeteners, hello Diet Red Bull…ick!) most people are unaware of how awesome coconuts are,….yet! (insert music from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly here)

Driving out the bad guys & Restoring Order:Coconut oil is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and has one of the highest natural sources of electrolytes in nature. Electrolytes are ionized salts in our cells, that transport energy throughout the body.

The molecular structure of coconut water is identical to human blood plasma, which means that it is immediately recognized by the body and put to good use. Drinking the juice from a young coconut is like giving your body an instant blood transfusion. In fact this was common practice during World War II in the Pacific, where both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water, siphoned directly from the coconut, to give emergency transfusions to wounded soldiers.

Winning the young maidens heart: Proven to aid in weightloss simply by eating them. (Medium chain fatty acids are sent to your liver to be converted to energy instead of being stored as fat and also boost your metabolism) Eat to lose? Oh, I am so in! (insert clip of me and the coconut riding off into the sunset here!)

(*Please note however you do not have to be young or a ‘maiden’ to enjoy a loving relationship with young coconuts!)

How to Make Your Own Yummy Chai

spiced-chai-teaIf you love chai tea as much as I do then you have probably wondered how to make it…How to:

Boil 1 cup of water, adding one teaspoon of loose black tea (I use South Indian Orange Pekoe), 2 spoons sugar (organic cane), and grate 1 inch of ginger into boiling water.

After mix has boiled for 1-2 minutes and ginger is cooked, add 1 cup milk (whole organic milk is best, 2% and 1% are missing the good fats). Add 3 crushed cardamom and 2 crushed cloves, some saffron if it is available (all crushed in a mortar and pestle). Wait for entire liquid to boil 3 times, and then strain. Yum yum!
