Yoga Demo Video: Advanced Yoga Poses With Marysia Weiss

Here my yogi teacher friend Marysia Weiss inspires with this yoga demo during Krista Cahill’s class at Yogis Anonymous. The advanced yoga poses in the yoga sequence I have broken down and explained below. I have provided links so that you can work on the individual yoga poses in the yoga demo and perhaps one fine day put it all together into a fancy yoga sequence yourself!

1. Low lunge variation with shoulder behind calf and pressing forward
Step your right foot forward to the outside of your right hand, coming into a lunge. Keeping the back thigh lifted, slide your right shoulder behind your right shin and press the shoulder forward into the calf.
2. Half Crow/Half Tittibasana
Keep the shoulder pressing in to the knee and hop your left foot forward until you can snuggle your left knee into your left armpit. Now slowly lower your butt as you move your chest forward and reach through your right foot.
3. Eka Pada Koundinyasana 2
Lean your chest way forward and look toward the horizon to keep the chest lifting at the same time reach the left leg way back extending through the ball of the left foot.
4. Ashtavakrasana
Press down with right leg into your right shoulder like crazy as you draw your left leg through the arms and hook the left foot over the right foot. Lean your chest forward as you bend your elbows.
5. Eka Pada Koundinyasana 2
Lean your chest way forward and look toward the horizon to keep the chest lifting at the same time reach the left leg way back extending through the ball of the left foot.
6. Ghanduberandasana (scorpion variation)
Your on your own for this part since I hav never actually pulled this part off myself.
7. Vinyasa

Good Luck With Your Yoga Sequence!

Brock & Krista Cahill will be teaching at the second annual Wanderlust Festival, July 29 – August 1, 2010 in the stunningly beautiful peaks of Squaw Valley USA in Lake Tahoe, CA.

I am very happy to announce that I will be there to (as many of you already know) working as their assistant! I think this is going to be an amazing chance to hang with other yogis, take workshops from some of the worlds greatest teachers and enjoy a fantastic music lineup as well!

Below is a e-mail I got yesterday and thought I would pass along to you guys to get you pumped for Wanderlust!!!

Don’t have the dough but still want to go?

Win a trip from Prana a yoga clothing company HERE

Wanderlustis a one-of-a-kind festival bringing together the world’s best yoga teachers and best performers in rock & roll, all in a setting of breathtaking natural beauty. It is a place to relax, unwind, bend, dance, revel, and contemplate. It’s a community of like-minded people who share a common set of interests and values. It’s a chance to escape the mundane and dwell in the extraordinary. It’s healthy hedonism and spiritual exploration. Most of all it’s a long weekend of satisfying, stick-to-your-ribs fun.

This year’s festival features even more of the good stuff – expanded yoga offerings, more great music, a complement of organic foods and biodynamic wines, and the same incredible scenery and community that made last year’s event such a hit. The New York Times said it best: festival goers get “the same rejuvenating charge from raucous dancing as from mindful breathing.”

Brock & Krista’s Wanderlust Line-Up!

Brock & Krista will be taking center stage for 3 AWESOME classes that you won’t want to miss!

Brock & Krista’s Signature Flow Practice – (bala) nce yoga:

A blend of inversional vinyasa flow; bala is a Sanskrit word meaning strength. Therefore, in this practice, we use our strength to create balance. What a wonderful way to use your power to cultivate harmony, clarity, grace, and peace. In this style of practice expect to spend a good deal of your time upside down, or in an arm balance, challenging gravity and using your roots to find wings.

Foundations of Flight:

This workshop begins with plentiful amounts of core work to warm the body by igniting the fire within and awakening the inner warrior. Brock & Krista will then go over proven secrets to make arm balances and inversions effortless! The workshop will conclude with a few creative “arm balance medleys” created by Brock & Krista that sequence these challenging postures together in a fun & melodic flow. This workshop is great for a group of fledgling flyers who are just gaining their wings; and of course the frequent flyers are welcome to join in as well and brush up on the basic techniques of these masterful postures!

Tricky Transitions – All the Fun of Flowing and Floating:

What can we say…flow yoga Rocks!!!!! Even more exhilarating are the transitions into, out of, and between the postures. Balancing sequences of two or more poses requires a intense mental focus, physical strength and a truly playful spirit. Bringing together all the necessary ingredients for a truly deep and transformative practice. Join us on a wild journey of crazy postures and fun transitions. As your guides, we will help you to tap into the strength within you. This will allow you to smoothly navigate through the turbulence, delivering you safely to the other side. Yoga will give you the opportunity to practice getting through hard or complicated transitions in your life; knowing that by using your strength you can get even better, and overcome your obstacles.

How You Can Help Save An Endangered Species By Doing Handstands!

Brock and Krista Cahill HandstandingBrock and Krista Cahill really rocked it today over at Yogis Anonymous with a fantastic turnout and show of support to save the endangered sea turtles!

Ally Hamilton owner of Yogis Anonymous wrote about this event saying

Brock Cahill, in less than a week, has organized a significant local effort to address the tragic environmental disaster in the Gulf. His mission: to go to the Gulf and personally get involved. We are inspired by his activism and deeply grateful for the ability of yogis everywhere to mobilize and make a difference in our world… our childrens’ world.
